ABOUT TAREK FATTAL

Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles), athletics have always come natural to me. From the age of four I cannot remember finishing a day of school and NOT having practice in the afternoon.
Soccer, basketball and flag football engulfed my youth, and it was from the elementary-school age that I knew sports was going to be my life.
It's through athletics that I found more than a passion for sports journalism, but a vehicle to share Christ's love. With the gift of basketball, I've had the opportunity to travel on four mission trips where I used basketball to draw common ground with people that I would have never had the chance to meet otherwise.
Traveling to China, Japan (twice) and Accra, Ghana I played pick-up basketball with locals, ran basketball camps for children and even had the chance to compete in tournaments, which was a humbling and eye-opening adventure, to say the least.
During my time in college, I was able to experience the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics.
After playing college basketball at The Master's and Moorpark College, I spent two years in the Northeast where I received my Bachelor's degree in Communications/Sports Journalism, and a Minor in Religious Studies, from Springfield College, also known as the Birthplace of Basketball.
I was hired as a staff writer covering sports for the Southern California News Group/LA Daily News in 2015, primarily focusing on high school sports and UCLA men's basketball. In August of 2023, I left SCNG to be a senior reporter at High School on SI, powered by SBLive Sports.
In addition to my writing/reporter, I've served as a co-host/analyst/reporter at CBS-LA/KCAL since the spring of 2022. Most the time, I can be seen on Sunday afternoons with Jim Hill on Sports Central.
I still reside in the San Fernando Valley where I attend Shepherd Church with my wife, Brianna, and daughter, Ajla.
